UNRWA’s relief and social services programme has launched the first phase of distributing fresh meat to all 19 camps in the West Bank. Thanks to the Khalifa Ben Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, families living in difficult conditions will receive 2.5kg each. In total, 26 tons of fresh meat will be distributed over the four Fridays of Ramadan.
The project targets 10,000 poor refugee families, and approximately 55,000 individuals. The meat will be distributed through UNRWA’s partner organisations, including the community-based organisations and the women’s centres in the camps. The distribution will target special hardship cases identified by the Da’am programme and will also include feeding 450 orphans from the SOS children’s village in Bethlehem every week with 100kg of meat. The meat has been purchased from Palestinian farmers, with the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Agriculture.
Ilona Kassissieh, UNRWA public information officer, said: “We are grateful for this assistance from the Emirates during this difficult time, when many families are unable to meet their basic needs and have a wholesome meal.”
The project will also include 19 public iftars in the camps, 200 persons will be invited to each iftar, with priority given to children and the elderly.
